Home and Business Private
Security Firms
While there are various methods
of implementing policies and procedures for
security in the home and the work place, the
one most usually employed is that of a private
security service. While this was a privilege of
the rich and famous in the past, private
security has an entirely different connotation
today.
Some agencies provide personnel
/ security guards who physically monitor the
premises while others simply respond to
problems as they arise. The general practice is
that firms have a central monitoring cell
replete with video cameras and alarm systems as
well as personnel who respond to
emergencies.
As these agencies monitor the
areas collectively on a shared basis, the
supervision is not as fine-tuned to
individuals’ needs as well as not being as
meticulous as would be desired. This translates
to a huge difference in the cost.
It is essential here to point
out the differences between the onsite security
system and the monitored one. The former system
actually secures the property rendering it
virtually impregnable.
With the onsite private
security system, the guards check everyone who
enters or leaves the premises and if they carry
weapons, it adds another dimension to the
security provided. Further, you are in a
position to have a say-so in the choice of
guards with verified backgrounds. The cost will
be more, but if the needs of the family or
business warrant it, it is money well
spent.
A typical private security firm
that monitors multiple homes and businesses,
you have to be prepared to accept the personnel
they provide. As a result they often hire
people with no background security checks,
and because they offer lower wages for the long
hours, the staff usually has high turnover
rates. The performance standards will be low in
terms of education, service, efficiency and
proficiency due to the unskilled employees.
While mulling on the
differential in costs as opposed to the service
provided, you need to decide what threats
you or your business faces and whether it
merits personalized service or not. Whatever is
the outcome, do remember that personal security
for your home or business is no longer a luxury
but an essential and affordable necessity.
