Create an Emergency Plan That Include Security Measures for your Home and Business

Disaster management is an area that is fast emerging as a requirement in today’s world not only in the United States but across the world. Disasters typically occur without any warning and the level of unprepardness often correlates to the extent of damage to property, lives lost and business ruin. An emergency plan could effectively reduce the risk and losses incurred and help in controlling damage and restore normalcy as much as possible.

In case of a home or business being invaded, the priority is to ensure safety of all, be it home or business. A pre-defined assembling point for this purpose needs to be identified.
Each family member or employee should be trained and aware of the location specified in case of a break-in.  The place identified should be simple to remember, especially if it involves small children.  A neighbor’s house is a simple solution and consideration should be given to ensure the identified place is large enough to accommodate everybody. An emergency phone call drill should clearly outline what each person needs to do without confusing and adding to the chaos of any situation.

Emergency management plans should vary according to the nature of the disaster.  Procedures for handling fire or weather related disasters would be different than from a hurricane related one; such as the location and path of the hurricane would be needed to be taken into consideration. Family members or employees should be clear on the location they need to move into for basic shelter during such situations. Families should practice disaster exercises at night times to ensure that children do not panic and instinctively operate in a clear manner when faced with an emergency. Such knowledge could prove vital in the case of emergencies.

A clearly outlined emergency plan more often than not provides clarity of purpose for everyone involved and helps calm the panic.  Specific action plans with sufficient practice will result in efficient emergency handling.

A special note has to be made regarding hurricanes. They present a special situation since they can cause havoc across many square miles. In such cases, accurate information on the people who are safe, status of disaster and safety of workers and members is the priority. Unfortunately, displacement is a fairly regular occurrence in this type of disaster and email lists can be used to keep everyone informed.  Plan to create the email list and have it handy so you can locate it quickly.  This will provide you with personal information on everyone you need to be in contact with and ensure nobody is forgotten.

The aim would be to restore normalcy as soon as possible. People involved should be given adequate time and opportunity to return to their workplace or organize their homes as soon as possible. Time off could be given to help them set their homes and lives in order. A disciplined and practiced emergency plan is the only way to go forward.

Good to Know...

Spam email takes a variety of forms, ranging from unsolicited emails promoting products like Viagra, to coordinated spam attacks designed to take up so much bandwidth on a network so as to cause it to crash. A more recent trend is image spam, which eats up even more bandwidth than its textual cousin, and often circumvents contextual spam filters which analyze the message text to look for indications that the email is spam.
