Are Fake Security Cameras Providing You With a False Sense of Security?

As crime is on the rise, most people feel at risk and therefore feel the need to protect their homes & offices. It is generally believed when people install security cameras they have an increased sense of security.  Here however lies the problem as it is the fear of getting caught that is a deterrent to crime and not the camera per se.  Since the camera is a `fake’, there will be no way to identify the criminals if they are caught.

The crime is perpetrated, the damage is done, and the loss is to be borne. The camera will be found to be effective only if there are personnel present who not only monitor the camera images, but are in a position to `nab’ the intruders and thus prevent the loss. If any camera installed for security purposes does not deliver the basic result, it is then of no use whatsoever.

Most criminals are savvy enough to know not to look at the cameras directly so their face is not revealed.  And they know that clothing used during the` job’ can later be identified and should always be discarded. Most importantly, they are aware that there is a cushion of time between the alarm being sounded, the concerned authorities being alerted, and the police [who are known to be slow] to arrive on the scene. Cameras, whether real or fake, are a medium of identification rather than a deterrent to crime.

It is good to compare the cost of the process of installing of cameras versus the more beneficial cost of the introduction of a monitored security system. The latter option will provide an efficient and effective deterrent to criminals thus giving the owner the solace of safety.

While the lure of attractive cameras might seem to prevent petty crimes of shoplifting in the work place, the success of these will only be judged when there is a turn around in the losses incurred. It is therefore advisable to invest with a view to a long term plan to provide adequate security for the home and the office and enjoy a well earned sleep at night.

Fakes are uncovered -- With a fake system in place, you always run the risk of someone uncovering the fake. If this happens, you run the risk of an increase in criminal activity. The credibility of your security plans will be severely undermined which could have devastating consequences.
